The Ghana Education Service (GES) will dismiss any invigilator or supervisor found engaging in examination malpractice during the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
“The GES Council has given the Service the power to dismiss invigilators and supervisors who are caught indulging in examination malpractices,” said Professor Ernest Kofi Davies, Acting Director-General of GES, at a press briefing in Accra.
The 2025 WASSCE begins on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, with practical examinations and ends on September 19. Written papers will commence on August 20.
A total of 461,640 final-year Senior High School students—207,381 males and 254,259 females—are expected to sit the exams across 701 centres nationwide.
Prof Davies said the warning was to uphold the integrity of the examination and the education system.
“As usual, GES will collaborate with the West Africa Examination Council and other security agencies to ensure law and order during the examinations.”
He congratulated candidates and urged them to prepare thoroughly.
“I wish to use this opportunity to congratulate candidates and wish them all the best in their examinations and admonish them to prepare very well for the examinations.”
Prof Davies advised students to study diligently and avoid malpractice.
He also commended teachers and stakeholders for their role in preparing candidates.
Prof Davies said candidates in conflict-prone areas such as Bawku would be escorted by security personnel and kept in school until the exams conclude.
“The security agencies are in control of the situation,” he assured.
GES has released GH¢15,849,920 to cover practical fees for science, vocational, and technical subjects nationwide.
The Ashanti Region leads with 115,982 candidates, followed by Eastern Region (64,225), Bono Regions (61,773), Central Region (53,738), and Greater Accra Region (45,877).
