The Black Stars have slipped five places to 70th in the latest FIFA Men’s World Ranking after a disappointing start to their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
Ghana, who were ranked 65th in the previous edition, lost 25.73 points following defeats in their opening two qualifiers. The Black Stars suffered a 2-0 loss to Côte d’Ivoire before being beaten 4-2 by The Gambia.
Released on October 7, 2026, the latest FIFA rankings were calculated from 338 men’s international matches played since the 2026 FIFA World Cup concluded on July 19.
The matches featured UEFA and Concacaf Nations League fixtures, alongside qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The latest results add to a challenging period for the four-time African champions, who failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON.
Ghana subsequently parted ways with head coach Carlos Queiroz by mutual agreement following the two defeats.
A planned friendly against Morocco, Africa’s highest-ranked national team, was also cancelled.
The Black Stars, now 14th in Africa, will hope to turn the page under new management when they return to competitive action.
Ghana are set to face Somalia in consecutive 2027 AFCON qualifying matches, with Somalia currently ranked 200th in the world.
In the global rankings, Ghana are positioned below Jamaica in 69th. Cabo Verde occupy 68th, followed by Honduras in 67th, Albania in 66th and the United Arab Emirates in 65th.
Morocco continue to lead the African rankings, sitting seventh globally, while Senegal are 18th.
Côte d’Ivoire are 29th, with Nigeria dropping four places to 30th.
Spain remain at the summit of the global rankings following their 2026 FIFA World Cup triumph. Argentina, the runners-up, are second, while France occupy third place.
