The Board Chairman of the Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation (GIISDEC), Farouk Aliu Mahama, has announced plans to construct an ultramodern office at Yendi in the northern region.

According to him, this will be done in January 2022, making the Yendi municipality the headquarters of iron and ore exploration in the country.

As espouse by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on several occasions that Ghana is not poor due to its rich natural resources, Mr Farouk noted GIISDEC will collaborate with the Chiefs as custodians of the land to unlock the value of the mineral resources in the region and other parts of Ghana to bring the needed development and employment opportunities to the people.  

He indicated the Sheini iron ore deposit is a multi-billion dollar investment opportunity and his outfit will do everything possible to explore it for the benefit of the people.  

Speaking during a working visit to Yendi today Friday (November 19, 2021) Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama who is also the Yendi Member of Parliament said, “I have two responsibilities – I’m the MP elected with a mandate for the people of Yendi and Board Chairman of GIISDEC, I will use my position to unlock the value of Sheini.”

He continued, “Ndan Ya Naa, Sheini is sitting on a multi-billion investment and we will not allow it to go waste. Insha Allah, me and the Board Members and the CEO; we have set the action plan for 2022, we have also made the right budget allocation in terms of our corporate social responsibility up to Sheini.”

“Having the capital as the MCE already reiterated when we paid a courtesy call on him, we’re going to make the Yendi office the headquarters of iron and ore because Yendi and the Dagbon people are the owners of the iron and ore deposit. And as the Chairman, we’re going to put up a new befitting office; Ya Na! January – we’re going to kick start a new construction of an ultramodern office for the people of Dagbon, build an operations office for the people of Sheini, so that the trickling down effect, Sheini youth will get jobs, Zabzugu youth and Yendi youth, so that the Dagbon kingdom will have direct benefits of employment – practical employment that we’re going to give to the people of Dagbon” he assured.

In his response, Ya Naa Abukari II congratulated the GIISDEC Board Members for their appointment to serve the people of Ghana, saying, “Your appointments are on merit through your good works for mother Ghana”.

He further commended President Akufo-Addo for reposing such confidence in them.

The Ya Naa indicated the high level of commitment of the Yendi lawmaker as Chairman makes the GIISDEC board a solid term to man the affairs of the corporation.

“I have no doubt that you will achieve the goals of the corporation” he added.

The Dagbon Overlord noted building a good working relationship with the traditional authorities is a form of ensuring all-inclusiveness in the affairs of the corporation.

He, therefore, gave his assurance and readiness of the traditional authorities to collaborate with the organization to do a good job for the country.
