Incumbent President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, is making a strong case for a second term as president, presenting a comprehensive five-pillar agenda aimed at significantly improving the welfare and professional standing of journalists across the country.

The GJA elections are scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025.

Mr Dwumfour, who is seeking re-election, highlighted his commitment to building on the foundation laid during his first term.

His agenda prioritizes the well-being and development of GJA members, promising a more robust and supportive environment for media professionals.

Below are Dwumfour’s Five-Pillar Agenda for a Second Term:

Finalizing Better Working Conditions of Service for Journalists:

Mr Dwumfour emphasized that significant preparatory work has already been completed in this critical area. His goal is to finalize and implement improved working conditions, ensuring journalists receive fair remuneration and better work environments.

Comprehensive Insurance Package and Improved Welfare Support:

A key promise in Dwumfour’s second-term bid is the implementation of a comprehensive insurance package for all journalists.

This, he stated, will be coupled with an enhanced welfare support system designed to provide greater security and assistance to members in times of need.

Enhanced Professional Development Through Scholarships:

Recognizing the importance of continuous learning, Mr Dwumfour is pledging to secure more local and international scholarships for GJA members. This initiative aims to provide journalists with expanded opportunities for professional development and specialization.

Regional Reorganization and Support:

To strengthen the GJA at the grassroots level, Mr Dwumfour plans to facilitate the establishment and operationalization of regional offices.

This pillar also includes promoting region-specific training and support programs, as well as the reactivation and activation of dormant GJA chapters.

Upholding Press Freedom and Protecting Journalists’ Lives:

Mr Dwumfour reiterated his unwavering commitment to press freedom, vowing to intensify the fight for a free and unhindered press in Ghana.

A crucial aspect of this pillar is the continued protection of journalists’ lives, emphasizing the mantra, “Still journalists’ lives matter.”
