The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has reconstituted its statutory committees as part of efforts to strengthen the administration, governance, and professional development of the Association.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, GJA said the National Executive reconstituted the committees in accordance with Articles 30, 31 and 32 of the Association’s 2004 Constitution to support the effective discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.
The Association noted that the newly constituted committees comprise seasoned journalists, media managers, and experienced professionals whose expertise will help advance the objectives of the GJA while promoting high standards of journalism across the country.
Membership Vetting Committee
The Membership Vetting Committee will be chaired by GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour. Other members are veteran journalist Kissi Yeboah, Seth Eyiah, Editor-in-Chief of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Peter Ankomah, Editor of the Daily Dispatch, and Nana Yaa Konadu, presenter at Peace FM under the Despite Media Group.
Professional Development Committee
GJA Vice President Rebecca Ekpe will chair the Professional Development Committee. She will be supported by former GJA General Secretary and Wisconsin International University College lecturer Kofi Yeboah, Assistant Editor of the Ghanaian Times Cliff Ekufful, Ghana News Agency Chief Editor George Ramsey Benamba, and Kweku Owusu Peprah, Head of Joy Brands at the Multimedia Group.
Social Affairs Committee
The Social Affairs Committee will be led by GJA Organising Secretary Suleiman Mustapha. Members include Isaac Owusu Asare of GBC, former GJA Vice President Linda Asante Agyei, Isaac Nuamah Yeboah of the Daily Analyst newspaper, and Maame Efua Mensah, Editor at UTV.
International Relations Committee
The International Relations Committee will be chaired by GJA General Secretary Dominic Hlordzi. Other members are Mary Mensah, Foreign Editor at Graphic Communications Group Limited, freelance journalist Zambaga Rufai, Ken Sackey of the Ghana News Agency, and Yaw Obeng Manu, Editor of The Publisher newspaper.
Finance and Resource Mobilisation Committee
GJA Treasurer Bertha Badu Agyei will head the Finance and Resource Mobilisation Committee. Members are Charles Benoni Okine, Director of Corporate Affairs and External Relations at MIIF, former GJA Treasurer Audrey Dekalu, Nii Odartey Lamptey of GBC, and Michael Ocquaye, Deputy News Editor at Graphic Communications Group Limited.
According to the National Executive, the combined experience and professionalism of the committee members will strengthen the Association’s work, deepen engagement with members, and support the implementation of strategic programmes for journalists nationwide.
The committees are expected to play key roles in promoting professional excellence, improving governance structures and enhancing the welfare of journalists while supporting the GJA’s broader mandate of safeguarding press freedom in Ghana.
The newly reconstituted committees will be officially sworn into office on Monday, August 17, 2026, during the 77th Anniversary Lecture and Symposium of the Ghana Journalists Association, scheduled to take place at the British Council in Accra.
The GJA also expressed appreciation to all members who accepted the appointments, describing their willingness to serve as a demonstration of commitment to the advancement of journalism and the welfare of media practitioners.
The Association said it looks forward to working closely with the committees to deliver on its mandate of promoting professionalism, defending press freedom, improving the welfare of journalists, and strengthening the GJA as Ghana’s foremost professional body for journalists.
