The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) is set to officially launch the 30th GJA Media Awards today Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City, Accra, with the occasion expected to bring together leading figures from government, diplomatic community, media, corporate and civil society organisations.

The launch marks a significant milestone in the history of the GJA Media Awards, which have over the years provided an important platform for recognising and rewarding journalists and media practitioners whose work demonstrates excellence, professionalism, courage, innovation and meaningful impact on society.

The Special Guest of Honour for the launch will be the Chief of Staff, Mr. Julius Debrah.

Also expected at the ceremony are the Mr. Sam Nartey George, Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations; Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications; Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Minority Leader; and Mr. Alex Apau Dadey, Executive Chairman of KGL Group, alongside other distinguished government officials, members of the diplomatic community, corporate leaders, media executives, journalists and representatives of partner organisations.

A major highlight of the launch will be the formal inauguration of a nine-member GJA Media Awards Committee, which has been constituted to oversee the assessment of entries and selection of winners for the various categories of the 30th GJA Media Awards.

The Committee brings together highly experienced media professionals with extensive backgrounds in journalism, editing, broadcasting, photojournalism, media management and public service.

The Committee will be chaired by Mr. Kobby Asmah, Commissioner, National Media Commission (NMC) and former Editor of the Daily Graphic, Graphic Communications Group Limited.

The other members are: Mr. A.C. Ohene, Senior Editor in charge of Special Assignment, Adom FM/TV, Multimedia; Mr. Richard Mensah, Editor, Citi FM/TV; Madam Ellen Avorgbedor, Former Central Regional Director, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC); Mr. Christian Akorli, Former Senior Editor and Head of Economics and Financial Desk, Ghana News Agency (GNA); Mr. Nana Kwasi Appiah, Senior Photojournalist, Information Services Department; Mrs. Georgina Naa-Maku Quaittoo, Editor, Spectator, New Times Corporation; Mr. Kingsley Nsiah-Poku, Former Deputy Managing Director, Atinka Media Village; and Mr. Awudu Mahama, Managing Editor, The Custodian Newspaper.

The Committee will formally commence its work on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, immediately following its inauguration, and is expected to conclude the assessment process on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. Its final report will be submitted to the National Executive of the GJA on Thursday, October 29, 2026.

The GJA is confident that the extensive professional experience and diverse expertise of the Committee members will contribute to a rigorous, transparent and credible assessment process and further strengthen the integrity and prestige of the Awards.

The launch will provide an opportunity for the GJA to officially unveil the 30th edition of the Awards and provide stakeholders with key information about the categories, assessment process and the Association’s vision for this milestone edition.

The GJA believes that recognising quality journalism is critical to strengthening public confidence in the media and encouraging journalists to uphold the highest standards of accuracy, fairness, independence, professionalism and ethical conduct.

The Association is also using the occasion to renew its call on corporate Ghana, development partners, media organisations and other stakeholders to support the 30th GJA Media Awards.

The GJA is extending a special invitation to all journalists and media practitioners, particularly those who submitted entries for the 30th GJA Media Awards, to attend the launch and be part of this important milestone.

The event will also provide an opportunity for journalists and other stakeholders to interact, celebrate the profession and look ahead to the main Awards ceremony.

Adding a touch of Ghanaian culture and entertainment to the occasion, the Kwanpa Band and Seprewaa artiste will thrill guests with live performances.

The 30th GJA Media Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 7, 2026, in Accra.

The GJA looks forward to welcoming the media fraternity, government representatives, corporate Ghana, development partners and other stakeholders to the launch of what promises to be a memorable and significant edition of the GJA Media Awards.
