The Minority Caucus in Ghana’s Parliament has issued a strongly worded statement rejecting recent public comments by Sammy Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), and calling for a formal parliamentary inquiry into financial losses linked to the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme.

In a press release dated 22 August 2026 and signed by Deputy Minority Leader, Patricia Appiagyei, the Caucus said Gyamfi’s statements between 17 and 22 August responded to questions it had raised about GoldBod’s financial position and the Bank of Ghana-administered gold-buying scheme that GoldBod runs.

The Minority insisted the reported losses were not invented by the opposition. They were flagged in an official International Monetary Fund report — an assessment the Caucus described as coming from “an independent and internationally respected institution.”

The group said it continues to seek a full, transparent reconciliation between those IMF-identified losses and GoldBod’s own audited financial statements.

“This is a legitimate matter of parliamentary oversight of a significant public programme, and it deserves a straightforward answer, not a dispute over who is entitled to ask the question,” the statement read.

The Caucus also criticised what it called personal characterisations directed by Gyamfi at Minority MPs, including the Minority Leader. It rejected the allegations as “false” and said it would not respond in kind. Legitimate scrutiny of a public institution’s operations and finances, it argued, is a core accountability function that no official may reframe as wrongdoing.

Citing Ghana’s Code of Conduct and Ethics for political appointees, the Minority said public office requires civility, restraint and respect. It pledged to pursue appropriate institutional channels to hold GoldBod’s CEO to those standards.

The Caucus reaffirmed its commitment to raising factual, measured questions about the management of public assets and formally called on GoldBod to appear before a Parliamentary Inquiry. The aim, it said, is to settle the public record through evidence tested under parliamentary scrutiny rather than competing accusations.

The Minority said it would continue to update the public as the matter develops.
