The Gumani FC has won the 2026 MTN Ghana Savanna Fest football after beating Sakasaka FC two unanswered goals in the final match held at the Northern School of Business SHS pack in the Tamale metropolis.
The tournament started on Friday, September 18, 2026, with 16 teams grouped into four witnessing some spectacular performances from the group stages to the knockout phase.
Prior to the final fixture, Sabonjida FC locked horns with Sheshigu FC for the third place. Sabonjida FC emerged victorious after scoring the only goal of the match few minutes to the end of the game.
In a post tournament interview, the Retail Experience Manager for the Northern sector, Kwame Aseye said the initiative formed part of activities to appreciate it’s customers as the company marks 30 years operating in Ghana.

He added this was also an opportunity for MTN Ghana to promote unite among the communities and to also appreciate it’s customers in the area.
“We are very excited about the football gala and significance for us this year is the fact it coincides with the 30th anniversary celebration where we’re appreciating all our customers for the progress we’ve made so far.
“So, we dubbed it: 30 years of progress powered by you our customers. For this activity was expanded for this year. We had 16 teams participating compared to 8 teams last year and we’re very excited that we were able to bring all these people together and we were able to unite them and at the same time bringing out some few talents” he stated.

The Gumani FC is the second team to lift the trophy after placing fourth in the maiden edition which Nyohini FC won in 2025.
In his remarks, the Coach of Gumani FC, Abdul Latif Wakil said his team came into the competition well prepared and committed to lift the trophy after failing last year.
He implored the organizers to collaborate with football scouts in subsequent editions to identify talented players to advance their careers.
Meanwhile, the winner of the competition received an amount of GHS20, 000, second place team, GHS10, 000 and third place team also receiving GHS5, 000 as prizes.
