Prosper Kumi, the Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has disclosed that the Assembly incurred expenses of GH¢27,398.05 for servicing and repairing District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) machines.

He explained that the DRIP initiative was introduced to provide Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) with modern machinery and technical training to boost their road maintenance and construction capacity.

Addressing the media on projects and activities during the review period, Kumi noted that upon assuming office, the Hohoe Assembly received several DRIP machines.

These included three concrete mixers, a pail loader, a tipper truck, a water tanker, a motor grader, a roller compactor, and a backhoe loader.

Except for the motor grader, all the machines were certified roadworthy. However, he said growing complaints from communities about poor road conditions made urgent servicing necessary.

Consequently, the Assembly engaged JA Plant Pool Ghana Ltd. in July and August 2025 to repair and service the motor grader and backhoe loader.

The servicing expenses were as follows: GH¢19,003.65 for changing the motor grader’s cutting blade and general servicing, GH¢5,011.65 for replacing its hydraulic seal, and GH¢3,383.20 for servicing the backhoe loader.

According to the MCE, the machines have since been deployed to reshape 5.10km of road networks, supported with 56 trips of gravel worth GH¢5,600. Operator allowances for July to September amounted to GH¢25,500.

He further disclosed that GH₵14,100 was spent on shaping and gravelling works at the UHAS Campus during the Regional Minister’s visit, and at the Franco Campus during the COESA Games.

Fuel costs for road shaping between May 14 and September 9, 2025, came to GH¢93,102.88, bringing the total DRIP expenditure to GH¢165,700.

Kumi assured residents that roads from Wli through Likpe to Hohoe, Hohoe township roads, and the Alavanyo stretch would soon be awarded for construction.

“We are committed to ensuring that the face of our inner roads will significantly improve, enhancing mobility, business, and social interaction,” he stressed.

He also announced plans to ease traffic congestion by designating one-way routes to the main station, market, and Hohoe Regional Hospital on specific days.

Additionally, under the Big PUSH agenda, contractors are already working on parts of the Eastern Corridor and Fodome roads to improve access to major trading centres in the Volta and Oti regions.

The MCE added that the Assembly intends to retool its Parks and Gardens Department using internally generated funds (IGF) to redevelop parks within the Municipality.

The DRIP is designed to empower Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) with the necessary resources and equipment to rehabilitate and maintain roads within their areas. This initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to decentralisation, providing local authorities with the tools to effect meaningful change.
