The New Patriotic Party Chairman for the Tamale North Constituency, Fuseini Mohamed Sadat Dagaali, has vowed not to be dictated by the Northern Regional Chairman of the party, Mohammed Baantima Samba against the NPP constitution.

Chairman Short as he is also known has also accused the Regional Chairman of interfering in his work which he believes has the potency to destruct the smooth reorganization of the party in the constituency.

According to him, Chairman Samba in a letter written to him (Chairman Sadat) has nullified two of seven persons appointed to serve the party in the Tamale North Constituency Executive Committee with the perception that the later will not vote for his reelection later this month.

He asserted the action of the Regional Chairman is against the general wellbeing of the NPP in the locality and contravenes the NPP constitution.

Chairman Samba in a letter obtained by THE CUSTODIAN has nullified the appointment the Tamale North Constituency Director of Communication, Issahaku Iddrisu and Deputy Nasara Coordinator, Atia Sanpaga citing lack of consensus and alleged misconduct of the Constituency Chairman.

He further directed that an emergency meeting be held between the Regional Executive Committee and Tamale North Executive Committee for redress.

Notwithstanding this, Chairman Sadat argued that all the appointment were dully done in consonance with the NPP constitution and endorsed by all the constituency executive committee members at their last general meeting contrary to claims of lack of consensus.

“Chairman Samba approached me with some proposed names for the appointed positions but I made it clear to him that, I couldn’t grant them because I’m looking out for persons who will dedicate themselves to work for the party and not people who will come to vote for regional executives”.

Balance representation

He continued, “Though the Nasara Coordinator is now an elected position, we’re expected select a person from one of the minority ethnic groups in the area so that people will not feel marginalized. In the last time, we had someone from Kanvili as the Nasara Coordinator then I decided that the deputy Nasara coordinator should come from the Kanvili electoral area and none indigene but Chairman Samba insisted he wanted a Dagomba from the area, meanwhile, we already have the Deputy Organizer and Communication Director from the Nyanshegu electoral area as Dagombas but the Regional Chairman is against Communication Officer with the notion that he won’t vote for him”.

Article 7(5) of the NPP constitution states that, with the exception of the following appointees, i.e. Constituency

Financial Secretary, Deputy Constituency Organizer, Deputy Constituency Women Organizer, Deputy Constituency Youth Organizer, Deputy Constituency Nasara Coordinator, Electoral/Research Officer, and the Constituency Communication Officer, all other Constituency Officers shall be elected at a Constituency Annual Delegates Conference, which shall be supervised by a person appointed by the Regional Executive Committee from within its membership.

Clause 6 further requires that, all appointments shall be made to reflect the diversity and the national character of the party.

“I was elected to lead the party in Tamale North and I am not going to allow anybody to dictate to me how I should perform my duties in the constituency. We’re appointing people based on merit and in line with the constitution of the party and not persons who will come to vote for any regional executive” he asserted.

The elected Constituency Officers of the New Patriotic Party are expected within fourteen (14) days of their election, and the Member of Parliament or Parliamentary Candidate appoint the officers who are specified to be appointed under Article 7(5) in consultation with the Regional Executive Committee.
