“Your voice has been resounding, that is, to do everything possible to make Bawumia the president and that’s my mission,” the national chairman hopeful told NPP faithful and party delegates.
Mr Agyarko, who filed his nomination on August 26, 2026 reiterated that he is seeking the chairmanship slot to get the NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia elected as President of Ghana and also win majority seats in Parliament.
He also promised to unite NPP, build a credible membership register, provide audited accounts and reconcile aggrieved members to make the party highly formidable for elections.
The NPP will be electing its national officers at the national delegates conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi in the Ashanti tomorrow Saturday.
National officers to be elected to spearhead the affairs of the party ahead of the 2028 general election are the National Chairman, three National Vice Chairmen, General Secretary, National Organiser, National Women’s Organiser, National Treasurer, National Youth Organiser and the National Nasara Coordinator.
Mr. Agyarko, a founding member of the NPP has emerged as frontrunner to win the national chairmanship race.
He seeks the position with an enviable record, serving as presidential campaign manager, policy adviser and cabinet minister.
Many political observers and researchers believe Mr. Agyarko will be elected as the main opposition party’s national chairman due to his enormous competence, huge credibility and the support he gets from constituency executives and many regional officers across the country.
A nationwide survey conducted by the Ghana Watch Initiative International (GWII) between September 1 and 12, 2026, projected Mr Agyarko to win on the first ballot.
The survey, which polled 2,098 constituency executives across all 16 regions, put Agyarko at 51.81%, followed by former General Secretary John Boadu with 32.32%.
Former National Chairman Paul Afoko recorded 12.39% and former First Vice Chairman Sammy Crabbe polled 3.48%.
According to the report, Mr. Agyarko leads in 13 of Ghana’s 16 regions, including strongholds such as Ashanti with 58.5%, Eastern 55.8%, Greater Accra 53.7% and Western North 55.9%.
Mr. John Boadu, however, maintains leads in three regions: Bono, Central and Savannah.
He got 44.0% in Bono, 43.4% in Central and 45.3% in Savannah, describing the findings as 13-3 regional split with Mr. John Boadu’s support mainly concentrated in areas where he has strong organisational networks.
The researchers led by Seth Adu-Adjei said the sample represents 40% of the constituency baseline of 5,244 and 29.30% of the official delegate population of 7,160.
Agyarko polled 60.7 in UG research
A separate University of Ghana study also tippped Mr. Agyarko as the candidate best suited for the Chairmanship role with 60.7% preference among respondents.
The projection has been reinforced by political analyst Dr Kwame Asah-Asante.
The Senior Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana said Mr. Agyarko possesses the experience, discipline and leadership qualities needed to lead the NPP.
“He stands taller than all of them who are contesting with him. There’s no doubt about that,” Dr Asah-Asante said on TV3’s Ghana Tonight on August 25.
“He is a very strong candidate, I have no doubt in my mind. Yes, others can compete but he will win them,” he added.
Four candidates are contesting the position, namely John Boadu, Sammy Crabbe, Paul Afoko and Boakye Agyarko, who is fourth on the ballot paper.
The contest forms part of the NPP’s reorganisation ahead of the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.
