The Executive Secretary of the Water Resources Commission, Professor Alidu Mahama Seidu, has expressed confidence of emerging victorious in the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Tamale Central constituency slated for September 6, 2025.
The governing party is scheduled to elect a parliamentary candidate to contest the impending by-election on September 30, following the sad death of the incumbent Member of Parliament, Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala, on August 6, 2025.
Twelve (12) out of fourteen (14) aspirants at the close of nomination on Thursday, August 28, submitted their forms to contest the primary. The two—National Vice Chairman Lawyer Halid Abdul Rauf and Alhaji Ibrahim Seidu, an engineer by profession—earlier withdrew from the contest, citing the high turnout of the aspirants.
Addressing journalists after his vetting at the Northern Regional Coordinating Council on Sunday (August 31), Prof. Seidu described the process as free, fair, and transparent.
“Even when you look at the composition of the panel [a national representative, council of elders, the constituency level, and regional executives], the representation is fair,” he observed.
The political science lecturer turned politician maintained that the kind of questions being asked by the vetting committee was also very objective, adding, “It speaks to your competence, and I answered them to the best of my ability.”
When quizzed on whether he stands the chance of winning the polls, Prof. Seidu said he was confident of emerging victorious.
“I’m confident that I will emerge victorious. I have extensively engaged the party grassroots to share my vision and plans to continue the good works of Hon Murtala and also bring my own initiatives to advance the course of development for the constituency,” he emphasized.
