Hajia Mariam Iddrisu interacting with BECE at one of examination centers

The Municipal Chief Executive for Sagnarigu, Hon Mariam Iddrisu has expressed confidence that candidates for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will make the municipality and particularly northern region very proud.

She explained that the teenagers who sat through the weeklong examination demonstrated a high level of confidence and enthusiasm having been prepared adequately by their teachers.

Hajia Mariam said schools within the Sagnarigu municipality have always produced good BECE results among the best performing schools in the northern region and was also optimistic that this year’s candidates will improve upon the good records of their seniors in the past.

“So I am hopeful that the trend will be the same or possibly it will even improve from previous years because I got the impression, the zeal, the confidence and hope the students gave me that they will all come out with flying colours and get placement to enjoy the free SHS policy implemented by President Nana Akufo-Addo” she added.

COVID-19 pandemic

The Sagnarigu MCE said adherence to the Covid-19 safety protocols was fantastic in all four examination centres in the municipality.

THE CUSTODIAN monitored the examination at the Kalpohin Senior High and Ghana Senior High Schools and can report that the majority of the candidates came into the centres wearing their nose masks as required.

Hajia Mariam indicated that the Ministry of Education through the Ghana Education Service provided pocket size hand sanitisers and nose masks to each and every student for usage with the teachers and invigilators also observing the protocols.

She added that hand washing facilities were also provided at all centres.

“I am positive that at the end of the exams no student or teacher has contracted the virus in the area.”

The 2020 BECE conducted by the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) started on 14 September and ended last Friday 18 September across the country with 29, 074 candidates consisting of 15, 805 and 13, 269 male and female respectively participating in the northern region.
