Dr. Ishmael Ackah - PURC

Electricity supply has been restored at Koblimahagu, suburb of the Tamale Metropolis following the intervention of the King of Dagbon, Ya Naa Abukari II.

The Overlord of Dagbon on Tuesday directed the Managing Director of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) to as a matter of urgency restore power supply to the community without further delays.

He also condemned the unlawful conduct and alleged assault on officers of NEDCo by some individuals in the area and consequently called on the Ghana Police Service to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Northern Regional Manager of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission, PURC, Mr. Edward Boduah, confirmed to The Custodian that, the power supply was restored at about 3:45pm Wednesday afternoon.

“Consistent with the directive of our revered Overlord which was captured in his statement which was delivered on his behalf during the commissioning of the Tamale Interchange, the PURC actually requested NEDCo to restore power the Koblimahagu community”.

This development he noted would help smoothen the ongoing stakeholder engagement, adding, “What we have to do next is to continue the engagement for the eventual installation of the meters in the community.”

The PURC has not relented on it’s efforts to amicably resolve the impasse since the beginning of the crisis.

The Executive Secretary, Dr Ishmael Ackah visited the northern region to engage with management and workers of NEDCo.

He seized the opportunity to advice utility providers to always explore provisions of the Legislative Instrument, (L.I 2413) governing the utilities sector.

Dr Ackah further urged the aggrieved workers who at that time laid down their tools to return to work.
