Mr. Salam Hamza Abdul-Fataw, Kumbungu DCE

The District Chief Executive for Kumbungu, Mr. Salam Hamza Abdul-Fataw, has extended electricity to six hard to reach communities in the district.

The communities are Singa A, Singa B, Magni, Gbali, Toligu and Tignyoring A.

This brings the total number of communities powered with electricity in the Kumbungu district to 70 under the Akufo-Addo-led government.

THE CUSTODIAN has gathered the remaining communities that are yet to be connected to the national grid in order for the Kumbungu district to achieve a universal electricity coverage are six.

The Chief of Singa, DCOP Iddi Lansah Seidu in his remarks stated the community has now attained its own independence having been connected to the national electricity grid.

“For us, the over 66 years of Ghana’s Independence was not meaningful to us unless today; because it’s today that we’re joining the rest of the country to be hooked onto the national grid.”

Sing-Lana Alhaji Seidu noted the DCE has therefore made the Independence of Ghana meaningful to the subjects of his traditional area.

“We all know former President Nkrumah built Akosombo dam and brought hydro, former President Rawlings pulled the hydro over to the north. For us today, Honourable Abdul Fataw has brought electricity to Singa –so he has made the independence meaningful to us” he added.

According to him, independence is meaningless without development therefore the community will remain grateful to the Akufo-Addo government and the District Chief Executive.

The Sing-Lana has also urged the government to construct a road network to connect the community and Dalun to enhance transportation and economic activities.

“I flew from Accra to the Tamale airport, drove in a 4×4 vehicle to Nawuni, humbly sat in a canon to cross and the rest of the journey was by motorking (tricycle). I am praying that in future, one should be able to drive straight from the airport to Sing” he appealed.

The Kumbungu DCE for his part outlined the benefits and impact of electricity in propelling the socioeconomic growth and development of the community.

He stated the security and safety of the people will now be enhanced and school children would be able to study at night and also have access to television and internet in order to be well informed and get connected to the rest of the globe.

Mr. Abdul-Fataw added agriculture is another sector that will benefit from the project and called on investors to set up processing factories to add value to the farm produce in the area as well as building storage facilities to avoid post-harvest loses.

Meanwhile, the DCE has said the remaining six communities at the appropriate time would also be tackled and connected to the grid, adding cumulatively all these communities put together are less than one hundred houses.
