Kumbungu: Zangbalun NPP executives refutes mass defection claim

‎The Zangbalun Electoral Area Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Kumbungu constituency in the Northern Region have denied claims that some members of the party have defected to the National Democratic Congress.

‎”The Zangbalun Electoral Area Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has noted with concern reports circulating on both traditional and social media alleging that hundreds of members of the Party in the Zangbalun Electoral Area have defected to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
‎
‎”We wish to state unequivocally that these allegations are false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to create a false impression regarding the strength, unity, and grassroots support of the New Patriotic Party in the Electoral Area” the group said in a statement.

‎
‎The statement comes on the back of a former Polling Station Chairman in the Zangbalun Electoral Area identified as Afa Asima announcing his decision to joining the National Democratic Congress for personal reasons.
‎
‎The disgruntled Chairman also announced that over one hundred supporters  of the largest opposition party have also joined the NDC over neglect and lack of development in the community.

‎
‎However, the Zangbalun Electoral Area Secretary, Abdul Rahaman Hudu, refuted the assertion at a news conference.
‎
‎
‎He revealed that the former NPP Polling  Station Chairman was found to have acted in breach of Article 4, Clause 7(g) of the Constitution of the New Patriotic Party during the 2024 general election.

‎
‎Accordingly, the beleaguered Chairman had his name removed from the electoral album in line with the disciplinary processes stipulated in the Constitution of the party.
‎
‎Consequently, Mr. Hudu said he and not more than five other individuals voluntarily left the NPP to join the NDC.
‎
‎
‎Therefore, the Secretary emphasized that any attempt to portray this isolated incident as a mass defection involving hundreds of party members is inaccurate, misleading, and without factual basis.

‎”It is important for the public to appreciate that, during his membership of the New Patriotic Party, the individual benefited from several opportunities facilitated through the party” he said.

‎
‎According to him, the former chairman was award a contract valued at GH¢160,000 for the renovation of a six-unit classroom block, a brand-new motorcycle.
‎
‎In addition, Abdul Rahaman Hudu alleged that some senior NPP leaders and benefactors also supported the private businesses of the disgruntled former Chairmam for his personal development.

‎”These opportunities demonstrate the Party’s commitment to supporting and
‎empowering its members” he stated.
‎
‎He mentioned that the achievements of the erstwhile NPP administration is unmatched, stressing the party undertook the Zangbalun, Gbugli, Kukuo, and Kpurim rural electrification projects, expansion of standpipe water facilities, and construction of several boreholes to improve access to potable water.

‎Additionally, he disclosed the NPP government completed the construction of the Zangbalun Area Council Office, a CHPS Compound and a maternity ward to enhance healthcare delivery and constructed a three-unit classroom block for the Zangbalun E/A Primary School.
