The Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has come under missile attack amid escalating tensions between the Israel Defense Forces and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
In a statement issued on Friday, March 6, 2026, the Ghana Armed Forces said the base was struck between 17:45 and 17:52 local time. Two Ghanaian soldiers sustained critical injuries, while another officer suffered psychological trauma. The strike also destroyed the camp’s Officers’ Mess, which was completely burnt.
“The injured personnel are receiving treatment at the Level One Medical Bunker and are currently stable. Arrangements are being made for their evacuation to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital for further care,” the statement said.
The military assured the public that other Ghanaian troops remain safe after taking cover in underground bunkers amid the volatile security situation.
Meanwhile, the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ghana), has lodged a formal protest at United Nations headquarters in New York City, urging all parties operating within the UNIFIL mission area to respect their obligations to protect peacekeepers.
