The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu, has said the high cost of living Ghanaians are experiencing is not normal but certainly cannot be reduced to mismanagement.
Current challenges, he noted, requires a collective resolve as a country to turn the situation around.
“Clearly we are going through very tough times as a country, indeed like most other places in the world which have been hard hit by the effects of Covid-19 and the Ukrainian war. Even though some have suggested that those two (2) reasons are not adequate, any objective person cannot underestimate the effect that they have had on the world economy and the related high cost of fuel and food” Mr. Shani maintained.
Consequently, the Minister noted, we have to put aside any form of partisanship and division and come together as one people with solutions to address the issue.
“The price rocketing we are witnessing is not normal and can certainly not be reduced to mismanagement. What we require is a collective resolve as a country to turn the situation around” he reiterated.
Addressing a congregation of Muslims at the Tamale Jubilee Park on the occasion of Eid-ul Adha on Saturday, the Minister indicated the country will overcome the prevailing hardship and gave an assurance of the Akufo-Addo government’s commitment and determination to put the economy back on track.
“Our revered Imams, Brothers and Sisters, it is very imperative we draw important lessons from these attributes of sacrificing and sharing of what we have with our neighbours. These attributes are very important in nation building and for the development of any society. It therefore behoves us to be patriotic to our society and country and give off our best so that we can grow and develop as a country. We must note that sacrifice and sharing with neighbours is a hallmark of Islam and this day should serve to remind us Muslims never to overlook these attributes in our daily lives” he admonished.
President Nana Akufo-Addo in Accra on Saturday announced his own salary and that of all appointees of his administration has been slashed down by 30 per cent.
In addition, he also said fuel coupon allocations for appointees have cut by 50%, all in the effort to cut expenditure of the scarce resources to help the economy navigate the challenges.
The President further urged the populace to bear with the government as he puts in measures to stabilize the economy.
