Ghana’s former Deputy Ambassador to China, Dr Charles Dwamena, has advised all road users to reduce the speed on the road in order to reduce the carnage on the road.
Dr China, as he is popularly called, made this call when he visited the Northern Regional Capital, Tamale, as part of his ‘Let’s Reduce to Reduce’ campaign which is aimed at creating awareness on road safety in line with the Global Road Safety Week from 17-23 of May.
According to him, road accidents in the year 2020 alone have claimed more lives than the total number of lives lost to COVID 19 infection and that there was the need to change the statistics regarding road accidents.
He highlighted the fact the Akufo Addo administration has done a lot in road safety by creating an Authority with enhanced powers to replace the former road safety commission but was quick to add that the ultimate responsibility lies with individuals road users to be conscious of whatever they do on the road.
He encouraged all citizens to spend a little time this week to talk about road safety issues and also to remind their friends, family and foes alike to obey traffic regulations at all times.
