President John Dramani Mahama has paid a courtesy call on former President John Agyekum Kufuor to check on his well-being and discuss national and international issues.
The visit took place on Monday, October 19, 2026, at the former President’s residence in Accra. The meeting between the two statesmen, both of whom have led Ghana at different periods in its democratic journey, reflects a continued tradition of mutual respect and consultation among the country’s political leaders.
President Mahama disclosed the visit in a post on his Facebook page, explaining that, “I passed by the residence of President J.A Kufuor this afternoon to check on him and find out how he’s doing and also discuss some national and international issues,” he wrote.
The interaction is understood to have covered a range of matters concerning Ghana’s domestic affairs as well as broader continental and global developments.

Such engagements between a sitting president and a former head of state often provide an opportunity for the exchange of perspectives drawn from long years of public service and governance experience.
Former President Kufuor, who served from 2001 to 2009, remains an elder statesman whose counsel continues to be valued across the political spectrum.
President Mahama’s decision to visit him in person underscores the importance of maintaining open channels of communication among Ghana’s past and present leaders, especially at a time when the nation continues to navigate complex economic, social and diplomatic challenges.
