A biological brother of President John Dramani Mahama, Alfred Mahama has been absolved in his alleged support for illegal mining operations, commonly referred to as ‘galamsey’ in the Eastern Region.

THE CUSTODIAN had carried a story with the headline, ‘Mahama’s Brother Fingered In Galamsey Operation,’ in which the paper reported that Alfred, senior brother of President Mahama, has been named by one Prince Kejah, a highly stubborn galamsey operator who is said to be polluting water bodies with his illegal mining activities, as his main protector, boasting that nobody can touch.

The paper also reported that Kejah had issued a strong warning to the National Security against efforts to arrest and prosecute him.

The warning, the paper further gathered, followed a massive swoop on Kejah’s illegal mining operations at Akyem Saaman near Osino in the Eastern Region by the National Security operatives on May 15, 2025, where of his four excavators, one bulldozer, and three tipper trucks were seized.

Sources at the National Security confirmed the seizure of the machinery, which have since been taken to Accra for further investigation.

However, following the publication of the story on Monday May 19, 2025, Prince Kejah who has been accused of using the name of Mr. Alfred Mahama in his alleged illegal mining operations has denied the allegation.

In an interview with Accra-based ‘Okay FM’, Kejah denied using the name of Mr. Alfred in his mining activities and that has no contact with the president’s senior brother.

Similarly, Mr Yaw Dankwah, lawyer for Mr Alfred has also in a letter addressed to THE CUSTODIAN refuted his client’s involvement in any form of mining operations.

We reproduce the full content of the letter below:

We write as Lawyers for and on behalf of MR.  ALFRED MAHAMA (hereinafter called “our Client”) and on whose authority we write this letter.
