Some aggrieved members of the opposition National Democratic Congress in the Mion constituency in the northern region have petitioned the party to bar the 2020 Parliamentary Candidate, Mr. Mohammed Abdul Aziz, from contesting the upcoming parliamentary primaries in the constituency.

Mr. Abdul Aziz served as the NDC Member of Parliament between 2016 and 2020 but lost the seat which was one of the safe seats of the party in the northern region.

According to the aggrieved members calling themselves as Concern Youth of NDC, the outcome of the 2020 elections casted a spur and a spell on the personality of the embattled former MP and it is therefore incumbent upon them to protect and safeguard the integrity of the NDC.

The New Patriotic Party 2020 Parliamentary Candidate, Musah Abdul Aziz Ayaba overturned a deficit of about 6,000 in 2016 to win the seat in 2020 with 21,552 against the NDC candidate who had 14,158.

The NDC Youth alleged this happened because the former MP developed horns and would not listen to any wise counseling from anyone in the constituency.

“This makes it a disaster for the NDC to allow the caliber of Hon Abdul Aziz to contest the upcoming primaries. Also respectfully, if a cursory survey is conducted in the constituency, it will be easily ascertained that majority of the constituents are still peeved and against the personality of Hon Abdul Aziz and by extension transmitted same to the NDC putting the NDC on path of losing the seat should Hon Abdul Aziz be our candidate going into election 2024” the group argues.

The NDC Boys maintained that the unceasing fracas between the former lawmaker and former NDC Constituency Chairman is a recipe for chaos and a phenomenon that would yet land the NDC in the gutters in the Mion constituency in the event the latter is allowed to lead the party.

The group also accused the former MP of devising a divide and rule tactics since his abysmal performance in 2020, a development they bemoaned has made the reconciliation process very cumbersome for the already sharply divided party.

“As it is now, there are certain places in the constituency that the former legislator cannot step foot without tight security. Imagine the fate of our dear NDC should such a figure be presented as a candidate for 2024 elections.”

According to the irate youth, Mr. Abdul Aziz allegedly ceased a pickup donated to the party by former Minority Leader, Hon Haruna Iddrisu and abandoned some rural electrification projects at Sakoya, Bacheborido and Bug-yili which in their view is an anti-party behavior.
