Hajia Alima Mahama, Minister for Local Government and Rural Development

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) will commence the second phase of the nationwide disinfection programme from July 19 to August 2, 2020.

In April, the Ministry in collaboration with its major partner in the environmental sanitation management sector, Zoomlion Ghana Limited embarked on the massive disinfection programme dubbed: National Disinfection Exercise that saw the disinfection of all markets, streets and some neighbourhoods across the country.

The exercise was set into motion when the first case of the coronavirus was reported in Ghana, which led to several interventions from both government and the private sector aimed at combating against the spread of the pandemic.

The exercise started in Accra in April and moved to 12 other regions where markets among other facilities in various municipal and district assemblies across the regions were disinfected.

In phase II of the exercise, the Ministry along with its stakeholders will clean-up and disinfect the remaining places and facilities in the regions.

The exercise will take off in the Greater Accra on Sunday 19th July and end on Monday 20th July 2020 with three teams charged with the responsibility of ensuring successful completion of work.

The team will travel to the Ashanti and Western North Regions for deployment where they will commence the exercise on Tuesday 21st July and complete on Wednesday 22nd July and then move to the Ahafo, Bono East and Bono Regions from 23rd – 24th July.
