MoMo transactions high in January this anticipated E-levy

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has revealed in its Summary of Economic and Financial Data that Mobile Money transactions in January 2022 grew by 13.56% year-on-year to GH¢76.2 billion.

The figure is said to be an improvement in the month of January 2021 when mobile money transactions stood at GH¢67.9 billion.

In December 2021, GH¢82.9 billion was recorded due to the Christmas festivities.

Based on the trend of Mobile Money transactions in 2021 and early this year, it cannot be concluded that there has been a decline in transactions due to the anticipated approval of the Electronic Transaction Levy Bill as opponents of the new revenue measure are suggesting.
