‎MTN Ghana has presented an amount of Twenty thousand cedis (GH¢20,000), airtime worth GH¢1,000; and assorted mineral drinks and water to the Gbewaa palace to commemorate this year’s Damba festival.
‎
‎The festival is observed annually by various ethnic groups in Northern Ghana including Dagombas, Mamprusis, Gonjas, and Nanumbas among others.
‎
‎It is a period where the people come together to celebrate, preserve, and share a community’s shared culture, religion and history.
‎
‎At a short handing over ceremony on Monday, August 31, 2026, the Senior Manager for Regional Sales in the North, Mr. Simon Amoh said that beyond providing telecommunications and digital services, MTN Ghana remain committed to being a force for good, supporting the traditions and institutions that give communities identity and strength.
‎
‎”We are honoured to stand with the Chiefs and people of the Dagbon Traditional Area as you prepare to celebrate Damba, one of the most cherished expressions of the history of Dagbon, faith, culture and identity.
‎
‎”For the Dagbon people, Damba is far more than a festive occasion. Its observance recalls the birth of the Holy Prophet Mohammed and has, over generations, grown into a profound celebration of chieftaincy, thanksgiving and communal renewal” he stated.
‎
‎Mr. Amoh reiterated the commitment if the company to safeguarding Ghana’s rich cultural heritage for generations to come, emphasizing the donation reflects the belief in Africa’s potential.
‎
‎”Supporting traditional festivals is part of that commitment. Festivals such as Damba preserve history, deepen social cohesion, promote cultural tourism and stimulate local enterprise, while creating a platform for communities to take stock and shape priorities for the future.

‎
‎”Through prayer, drumming, dancing, royal processions and the transmission of customs from elders to the young, Damba keeps the Dagbon heritage alive. It affirms belonging, strengthens unity and gives the younger generation a living connection to the values, stories and institutions that have sustained Dagbon” he stated.
‎
‎According to the Manager, these values resonate deeply with MTN and for 30 years, the company has grown alongside communities across Ghana.

“This milestone celebrates not only MTN’s progress, but also the people and communities who made it possible. The people of Dagbon are an important part of that story” he said.

‎‎During the festival, Mr. Simon Amoh announced MTN experience centres will be available at key locations to assist customers and provide a seamless service experience.
‎
‎He added: “We will also use the occasion to engage, listen and deepen our understanding of our customers’ evolving needs.”

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Gbewaa Palace, Alhaji Yakubu Musah, on behalf of the Regent commended MTN Ghana for the donation.
