Deputy Chief Executive Officer for the Forestry Commission, Musah Iddrisu Superior, has declared his intention to run for the General Secretary position of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) next year when the party goes to congress to elect its national officers.

In a press statement on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, the former Chief Executive of Tamale said the decision to contest the portfolio became stronger by calls from the rank and file of the party to serve in that role.

“As a true, loyal and dedicated member who is desirous in serving the New Patriotic Party in any capacity, I feel obliged to respond positively to the calls by the numerous party people across the country.”

“The spirit of our party must be brought back. We must be ready now and at all times to properly plan and execute an efficient and innovative campaign for victory in the 2024 General Elections. I have the capacity and strength to find the lost spirit, revive the dormant party structures across the country and serve the party people with purpose, greater assertion and conviction in the mandate I seek” he added.

The one time campaign aide to candidate Nana Akufo-Addo believes the NPP government has performed well and the party must build on the successes chalked by the government as part of its strategy to secure victory in 2024.

“It is for this reason that I offer myself for the General Secretary position to lead in galvanizing the grassroots to re-build a stronger, thoughtful and more efficient party capable of energizing and mobilizing first our supporters and sympathizers, and then millions of non-NPP voting citizens across the country to compete meaningfully in the 2024 general elections” he affirmed.

The outspoken Musah Superior says he will formally outdoor his vision publicly in the coming weeks in his interaction with party loyalist across Ghana.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time Musah Iddrisu Superior will present himself for election in the NPP. He stood in 2005 to be elected as the NPP National Organiser but could not attract the majority decision.

But subsequently, he was elected as the NPP 2012 Parliamentary candidate in the Tamale Central constituency in the northern region. He was the convener of the young patriots of the Dankwa/Busia/Dombo tradition in the early 90s.

Respect Party directive

The General Secretary aspirant has urged the NPP support base to respect the directives of the party not to use the impending annual National Conference in the Ashanti region for campaigning.

“Let’s respect and comply with decisions made by the party” he urged.

The governing New Patriotic Party is expected to hold its annual National Delegates Conference to consider some proposals for amendment of the party’s constitution leading to activities earmarked ahead of the next national polls.
