Reports filtering in from the Ashanti Region indicates that the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is supporting independent parliamentary candidate, Mr. Kwabena Aduomi in the Ejisu by-election tomorrow.

It was rumoured that the NDC stayed out of the by-election in order to support Mr. Aduomi.

However, this rumour has now become a reality as the NDC National Organiser Joseph Yamin, last week, declared the main opposition party’s support for Mr Aduomi and urged all its members in the constituency to vote for him.

Political analysts believe it was as a result of the support Mr. Aduomi is receiving from the NDC that he declared he cannot work with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should he win the election and go to parliament.

Accordingly, the political analysts acknowledged the narrative that the independent candidate who had been an MP for 12 years on the ticket of the NPP, was planted in the race by the opposition NDC.

However, realizing that the NDC flag will not help his cause in Ejisu, a constituency regarded as NPP stronghold, Mr. Aduomi, in a video that has gone viral, declared that he belongs to Alan Kyerematen’s ‘Movement for Change’ and cannot do business with the NPP.

In the video, in which Mr. Aduomi is seen addressing some residents of the constituency, he noted that he decided not to contest the NPP primaries because he could no longer work with the governing party.

The actions and statements of Mr. Aduomi, coupled with the tacit endorsement by the NDC, have led political observers to believe that should he have the opportunity to be in parliament, he would align himself with the NDC side, shifting the majority in favour of the NDC.

According to the political analysts, Mr Aduomi has proven to be a sore loser, a loose cannon, and a bitter person who has decided to cut off his nose to spite his face.

They explained that Mr Aduomi’s reasons for staying out of the NPP’s primaries and leaving the party are shallow and smack of a person on a destructive course.

“Mr Aduomi would find it difficult to work with the NPP side in parliament following all the negativity he has exhibited against the party, making it obvious his intention to work with the NDC side in parliament,” one of the political analysts stated.

Should Aduomi win the by-election and decide to work with the NDC side, it would shift the parliamentary majority to the NDC side with 138 members, a development that could have dire consequences on the governance of the country for the rest of the year.

The outcome of the Ejisu by-election tomorrow will have far-reaching consequences on the governance of the country as it could affect critical decisions that need to be taken by both the executive and parliament.

Accordingly, the political analysts believe the unbridled desire of Mr. Aduomi to do the bidding of the NDC must be arrested by the electorate in Ejisu in the interest of the development of the country.
