The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed its supporters not to attack Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen because the former Minister for Trade and Industry has the same agenda like the main opposition party of kicking out the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) out of power.
NDC National Chairman Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah in issuing the directive noted that, Alan who quit NPP weeks ago, to contest as an independent presidential candidate, will be vital in the main opposition party winning the 2024 general election.
Speaking on Angel TV and Angel FM on Wednesday morning, the NDC national chairman reiterated that Alan and his party have a common agenda.
“So they (NDC supporters) should not be engaged in those attacks on him (Alan). We are chasing the NPP from the front and he is pursuing same agenda from the rare.
“If we start to target him instead of Akufo-Addo and his government, then we will be losing our focus,” Mr. Asiedu Nketiah popularly known as General Mosquito on Ghana’s political terrain told NDC supporters.
Alan was in the race to become the NPP’s flagbearer ahead of the 2024 general election but quit the governing party after losing miserably in the first phase of its presidential primaries.
He polled a paltry 10% in NPP’s Special Electoral College election on August 26, 2023, placing a distant in a contest that was to select five out of 10 presidential aspirants for the November 4, 2023 presidential primaries.
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia topped the polls with massive victory of over 68%, followed by maverick Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong 14%.
Alan pulled out of the phase of the race and eventually quit NPP, citing unfairness on the part of party leadership as well as vote-buying and announced his decision to go solo in the general election.
However, his claims drew lots of criticisms from a lot of people, particularly members of the governing party who described his allegations as complete falsehood. But in what is seen as a defence of Alan, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah said the attacks on the former Minister for Trade and Industry is unnecessary, calling on his party supporters not to attack their newly found political ally.
