Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah - NDC General-Secretaey

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will begin its internal reorganization leading to the 2024 general election next month. The National Executive Committee of the party has set out June 15, 2022, to commence its branch executive elections.

Mr. Johnson Aseidu Nketiah, General Secretary of the NDC in a statement on Tuesday (May 10, 2022) also outlined dates for the elections of Ward Executives, Constituency Executives, Regional Executives and the party’s National Congress.

The statement further spelled out that, the Ward elections will be held later in August, followed by Constituency elections in September and the Regional elections in October 2022 before a National Congress is organized later in November this year.

The communiqué was issued at the end of the National Executive Committee meeting on Monday, May 9, 2022, at the party’s headquarters in Accra.

General Mosquito as he is also known affectionately in the party said the NDC National Executive Committee discussed the ongoing reorganization of the party and resolved as follows:

1. The regulations and the modalities for branch elections should be approved by NEC and the elections conducted before that of the constituency and the regionals.

2. That as part of the regulations for the branch elections, nominations shall be Open upon an official publication or announcement by the general secretary seven (7) clear days before the start of the elections.

3. That nominations forms shall be made available at all branches at a fee of ten Ghana Cedis (Gh¢ 10.00) only for all aspirants.

4. That, to be eligible to contest for a position in the branch elections, a person must be registered and active member of the party in good standing for a least four (4) years.

5. That all registered members of the party in good standing shall participate in the voting process.

6. That for avoidance of doubt, NEC delegates the Functional Executive Committee to act on its behalf in the exercise of the approved guidelines for the conduct of the branch elections.

B. APPROVAL OF SALL and PROFORUM Affiliation

NEC also resolved;

1. That the Sall area (Santrokofi  Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe) is recognized and adopted as a constituency by the NDC.

2. That the NDC Professionals Forum’s application for affiliation is approved for submission to congress in accordance with article 9 of the NDC constitution.
