Dr Akwasi Opong-Fosu, an aspiring National Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), is set to begin his nationwide campaign tour in the Volta Region on Monday, November 2, 2026.
In a press release dated October 29, 2026, his campaign team said the decision to start the tour in the region recognises its historic loyalty, sacrifices and contributions to the growth and electoral successes of the NDC.
The statement, issued by Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, Convenor of the AOF4C Campaign Team, described the Volta Region as strategically important to the party’s future.
The visit is expected to provide Dr Opong-Fosu with an opportunity to engage party stakeholders, listen to their concerns and share his vision under the campaign theme, “Consolidating the Gains.”
The campaign aims to protect the achievements and legacy of President John Dramani Mahama while positioning the NDC to retain political power in 2028 and beyond.
Dr Opong-Fosu is expected to meet regional and constituency executives, delegates, branch executives, party elders, cadres, former and serving Members of Parliament, former and current government appointees, and other key stakeholders.
According to the campaign team, the engagements are intended to build consensus around a stronger, more united and inclusive party.
The campaign is anchored on the 3Vs — Votes, Voice and Viability — which the team says will ensure that grassroots members are recognised, heard and economically empowered.
The team is also highlighting Dr Opong-Fosu’s experience in party organisation, public administration and government as central to his bid for the national chairmanship.
It described him as a founding member of the NDC, a former Member of Parliament and a former Minister of State, with a deep understanding of the party’s foundations, grassroots structures and leadership demands.
The campaign team believes his experience and institutional knowledge will be crucial to strengthening party unity, consolidating the NDC’s achievements and safeguarding its political future.
Under the slogan “Consolidating the Gains!”, the campaign seeks to rally party members around the principles of Votes, Voice and Viability as Dr Opong-Fosu pursues the national chairmanship.
