The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has settled on new dates for the party’s internal elections.

The NEC took the decision at its meeting held on Monday 9 May 2022, and the party is expected to announce the specific dates for the polls in the coming days, according to information gathered.

In line with the party’s constitution, the NDC should have begun the processes for its internal elections from January 2022 till the end of the year.

Five months on, sources within the NDC tell Asaase News that the delay can be attributed to logistical constrains that the party has had to deal with.

According to sources who are familiar with the yet to be released new directives of the party’s NEC, limited registration exercise for new members will take place from 21 May, through to 7 June 2022.

The Party’s branch elections are expected to take place in the months of June and July.

The collation of branch election results and constituency data and administrative issues will be taken care of between the 1 and 7 August 2022.

The party will subsequently organise its constituency conference in September 2022.

The regional conference will follow in the month of October and in November 2022, the NDC would end the year by holding its national delegates congress.

Again, our source disclosed that all newly created branches of the NDC will have new branch executives and that, only members of a branch who registered by 2018 can contest.

All members with their names on the branch register can vote, the source indicated.

The NDC on the 4 May 2022, announced that it will conduct its internal elections after completing the issuance of electronic identification cards to its members as part of measures to digitize the party’s membership records.

The party also directed its members to replace the old identity cards of its members by 15 May 2022 to pave way for the registration of new members ahead of its internal elections.
