The opposition National Democratic Congress in the northern region has welcomed the nomination of Mr. Sule Salifu as the Metropolitan Chief Executive for Tamale.

The NDC in a statement issued on Monday (20 September, 2021), the Northern Regional Communication Bureau extended its warmest congratulatory message to Mr. Sule Salifu on his nomination for approval and appointment as Mayor of Tamale.

The statement further commended the nominee for transforming communicators of the New Patriotic Party as the incumbent Director of Communications in the northern region.

The NDC believes this has manifested in intellectual discourse between opposing parties and communicators of the governing party compared to the past when it was allegedly based on personal attacks.

“This has led to a more friendly media engagement especially to the NDC side which led to a much more lessened tensions before, during and after the 2020 election” the statement explained further.

The NDC continued that, “It is our believe that, your tenure in office as Mayor of Tamale, will see a more peaceful, United and Joyous city. We acknowledge the fact that development especially the central business district of the city cannot be done devoid of inconveniences; however we urge that it is done with a human face”.

Notwithstanding this, the largest opposition party warned that the NDC regional communications bureau will watch with keen interest and would keep an eagle eye on the performance of all other appointed Municipal and District Chief Executives in the region.

The party further called on the assembly members of the various metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies, particularly, the Tamale metro, to eschew partisan and personal interest in approving the nomination of Mr. Sule Salifu.

“Time had already been wasted during the nomination process, and any further delay may worsen the plight of the ordinary person” the statement emphasized.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sule Salifu when approved by assembly members will succeed Musah Iddrisu Superior as the outgoing Mayor of Tamale.

The nominee is currently the Northern Regional Director of the Youth Employment Agency and the NPP Director of Communications in the region.

He previously served as the party’s Regional Secretary during the tenure of Chairman Daniel Bugri Naabu.
