Former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Joseph Ade Coker has passed on.
Even though the exact cause of death of Ade Coker has not been publicly disclosed, the Head of Legal Directorate of the NDC, Mr Godwin Edudzi Kudzo Tameklo posted on social media that the political and football stalwart died after a short illness at the Bank Hospital on Saturday, May 31, 2025.
Late Ade Coker was well-known for his outspoken views on national and political issues and was highly regarded by the NDC grassroots for his accommodating character.
He was first elected as Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC in 2009 and went on to serve three consecutive terms. Mr Ade Coker lost his re-election bid in 2022 to the current regional chairman, Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore.
Before his tenure in politics, Ade Coker also served as Vice Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for many years, bringing his leadership to the world of sports as well.
Late Ade Coker was also a Chairman of Accra Great Olympics Football club for years, leading the club into highly competitive matches with city rivals, Accra Heart of Oak.
Sadly, his passing marks the loss of a prominent figure in both politics and football administration in Ghana.
