Mr. Iddrisu Amin popularly known as ‘Ndung Amin Natural’ has been retained as the presiding member of the Mion district assembly. He polled 20 votes to secure 2/3 of the total votes cast as required by law. His contender, Adam Ahmed had 10 votes.
The assembly members could not elect a presiding member after the first attempt failed. Three candidates namely: Adam Ahmed, Hamza Azindoo and Ndung Amin Natural contested the first round polls conducted by the district director of the Electoral Commission.
After the polls, Adam Ahmed polled 9 votes, Hamza Azindoo, 6 votes and Ndung Amin Natural had 15 votes. This therefore called for a runoff between the two candidates with highest votes.
However, the former Assembly man for the Jimli electoral area emerged victorious after the second attempt of election held on Monday, February 12, 2024.
Delivering his address, Mr. Iddrisu Amin noted the compassion among assembly members, faith in each other and commitment to duty has transformed the assembly.
“Now is the time for us to be united as Hon members so that we can genuinely serve our people and the Mion district. Going forward, our struggles are one, our concerns are the same and our hopes are also the same in the assembly” he stated.
Mr. Iddrisu added, “We have a lot of work ahead of us and I am ready and excited to work for our collective interest. I want to be as accessible and responsive to you as possible.”
He further thanked the assembly members for reposing their confidence in him for the second consecutive time, giving them [assembly members] his full assurance to work assiduously for their welfare and development of the district.
“I am deeply humbled by your support, and I want to assure you that I am going to work day and night to make sure that your concerns are heard and addressed” he promised.
