The Dasuma Radio Station in Yendi in the northern region has been commended for instituting the inter-clan soccer tournament to cement peace and unity in the area.

The Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Shani Alhassan Shaibu, applauded the local radio station organizing the annual event to foster peaceful coexistence to complement efforts by government after the 2019 Dagbon Chieftaincy Conflict Resolution.

The traditional football tournament was introduced by the Chief Executive Officer of Dasuma Radio, Alhaji Baba Daney in 2019 as a novelty to strengthen the cultural assimilation of the people.

Football matches are organized among eight ethnic clans in the Dagbon traditional area, namely; Goonji’nima, Laabangsi, Nakohi’nima, Macheli’nima, Lungsi, Mohi, Sapashin’nima and Wanzama.

The ultimate winning team takes home a trophy among other prizes.  

The Northern Regional Minister at the 2022 opening match on Saturday, December 24, was full of praises for initiative and commended the youth for actively participating in the tournament.

Alhaji Shani said peace and security is the bedrock to the socioeconomic growth and development of the region, adding the media has major responsibility on its shoulders to support the government to maintain law and order in every part of the country.

The Minister stated the Regional Security Council will at all times welcome activities and ideas that will leverage on the existing peace in the region.

In his welcome remarks, the Chief Executive reiterated the objective of the tournament and said there is the need for organizers to jealously protect it in order to sustain the peace and tranquility the Dagbon kingdom is currently enjoying.

He believes this will attract investment opportunities within the country and abroad to the region to mitigate the impoverishment of the people.  

The Member of Parliament for Yendi, Hon Farouk Aliu Mahama, MCE for Yendi, the Paramount Chief for Karaga, elders of the Gbewa Palace, representatives of the Kuga Naa and Zohe Naa were all in attendance.

Heads of decentralized public institutions in the Yendi municipality and representatives of political parties were also present to grace the programme.
