Mr Haruna Mohammed - Deputy National General Secretary of the NPP

A Deputy National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has stated no form of intervention will save the incumbent General Secretary, John Boadu, from defeat in the upcoming National Executive elections.

“Look, in 2018, the Presidency went in to plead for some of them but this time around the delegates will not listen to that. So, we’re ready, we’re not going to win this election with a gun or machete but we’re going to win this election based on the dictates of the constitution of the New Patriotic Party.”

He noted the election is about liberating the NPP from the hands of individuals who have not kept the party in good shape and confident that, the demeanor of the party’s grassroot demonstrates a wind of change.

However, the Northern Regional Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) said no amount of intimidation against the candidature of Lawyer Justin Frimpong Koduah, a General Secretary aspirant, will be entertained.

“Nobody should sit down and thinks that any intimidation against us by anybody, be it military or police; we don’t fear anybody, what we fear is our party’s constitution” he emphasized.

According to him, the blueprint of the former axed General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, gave the NPP the triumphant victory in 2016.

He said every eventful activities pertaining to the 2016 general elections was done by Mr. Agyapong before he was suspended together with then National Chairman and Second Vice Chairman.

“At the time we were doing that election, everything was done by somebody which the party took processes to suspend because election is not an event but a process. At the time, we had selected parliamentary candidates, all issues that came up, we were able to resolve it, we were moving ahead; at that time, we were with done with Presidential primaries and we had our flagbearer, so there was absolutely no eventful activity that could damage the chances of the party, Kwabena Agyapong finished everything before the party suspended him for Mr. John Boadu taking over as acting Chief Scribe.”

He added though the New Patriotic Party won the 2016 elections but it was based on someone’s blueprint and performance.

“After he (John Boadu) took over, in 2020, we saw how he administered the activities of the party in terms of Parliamentary selection, in terms of how we were able to resolve conflicts and I believe that the impact of that is what we’re seeing today in Parliament where we have 137, losing a significant number of seats” he pointed out.
