The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) in partnership with the National Peace Council has organized the Northern Regional Youth Dialogue and Festival for some selected youth groups in the northern region in an effort to promote peace before, during and after the upcoming December 7, 2024, presidential and parliamentary elections.

The capacity building program witnessed the participation of groups affiliated to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Convention People’s Party (CPP), and the People’s National Convention (PNC) among others to foster peace and coexistence among the youth.

Mr. Kwaku Krobea Asante, a Senior Programme Officer at the Media Foundation for West Africa, in a media interview said, “We gathered the youth of the various political parties to talk about their role in contributing to peace building, their role in fighting misinformation, disinformation, getting to the elections; their role in fighting against propaganda and polarizing narratives and how to avoid conflicts before, during and even beyond the elections”.

As the political campaigns intensifies, Krobea Asante said it is extremely important to drive home the place of the youth in ensuring that there is peace and stability and the elections are credible, asserting that the youth are the strength of the political parties as they [youth] are mostly the implementing agents of the political party’s activities on the grounds which thereby underscores the significance of their role.

The MFWA Senior Programme Officer argues that the country since the inception of the 4th Republic has recorded the highest consistent number of growth rate and development across all fields including education, health, infrastructure, roads and attributed to milestone achievement to the prevailing peace and stability in Ghana.

The Northern Region Executive Secretary of the National Peace Council, Father Thaddeus Kuusah, in his remarks underscored the importance of building the capacity of the youth to promote a peaceful election emphasizing the training will give them different perspectives in terms of how they can also promote peaceful election through the campaign activities to voting.

He further commended the MFWA for organizing such laudable program and also urged the youth not to allow politicians to use them agents of violence but rather be ambassadors of peace.
