The Northern Regional Minister, Shani Alhassan Shaibu, has presented government procured vehicles to six Senior High Schools in the region. The vehicles include a 65-seater school bus and 4×4 Isuzu pickups. The beneficiary schools are: Tamale Senior High (Tamasco), Ghana Senior High (Ghanasco), Gushegu Senior High, Zabzugu Senior High, Tatale Agric Senior High and Kasulyili Senior High Schools.
At a short handing over ceremony at the Regional Coordinating Council on Friday (February 11, 2022), the Regional Minister described the Akufo-Addo government as ‘Talk and Do’.
He said, “The NPP government is not a talking government. When they speak, they do and this is just an indication that when we make promises, we fulfill the promise”.
“On behalf of President Nana Akufo-Addo and his Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, I want to hand over the keys of these vehicles to the Regional Director of Education for him to further do the distribution to the beneficiary Senior High Schools for administrative purposes.”
The Minister observed transportation has been a major challenge to some of these schools in their day-to-day administrative affairs. In view of this, Mr. Shani indicated this will enhance the administrative capacity of these schools.
He therefore urged the institutions benefiting to be very diligent in the use of the vehicles – do a routine servicing and ensure it is kept in good conditions to serve its intended purpose.
Mr. Shani Alhassan Shaibu further gave an assurance that the other schools who haven’t benefited will also receive their share in due time.
For his part, the Northern Region Director of the Ghana Education Service, Dr Peter Attafuah, on behalf of the beneficiary schools commended the government for the support and further lauded the Minister for Education for seeing to it that these schools are equipped with the needed transportation.
He disclosed that other vehicles will arrive later in the year and the schools left out will get their share. “And we pray that these vehicles arrive on time and the schools or headmasters also benefit.”
Dr Attafuah however promised the sector Minister and the President of the Republic that the vehicles will be properly maintained, stating vehemently that, “We will make sure it is serviced regularly, as and when and where we’re supposed to do servicing, we would do it to ensure these vehicles last longer than anticipated”.
