Following today’s ruling by the High Court in Tamale for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to conduct fresh elections in the Walewale constituency to select the party’s parliamentary candidate ahead of the December general polls, the General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong, has announced Sunday, September 8, 2024, to conduct the primary.

Mr. Kodua in statement earlier Monday (September 2, 2024) announced an approved timetable for the rerunning of the primary. According to the statement, the party will open and close nomination on Tuesday, September 3 and Thursday September 5, 2024, respectively.

An Aspiring Parliamentary Candidate (APC) shall obtain nomination forms by paying a non-refundable application fee of GHC 3,000.00 in a banker’s draft payable to the New Patriotic Party National Headquarters, Accra.

To successfully file the nomination, an aspirant shall pay a non-refundable filing fee of thirty-five thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 35, 000.00) in Bankers Draft in favour of the New Patriotic Party National Headquarters, Accra.

The statement added that Women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) will receive a 50% rebate on the filing fees.

“This means they must pay a non-refundable filing fee of seventeen thousand and five hundred Ghana cedis (GHC 17,500.00). To ensure clarity, we define a youth as an individual between the ages of 18 and 40.”

The General Secretary however noted that those who participated in the general parliamentary primary election and paid the filing fees are not required to pay again.

Meanwhile, Alhaji Haruna Mohammed, the Deputy General of the party is nominated to chair the elections committee.

The other committee includes Alhaji Nurudeen Fuseini, Vice Chairman, Hajia Safia Mohammed, Member, Evans Nimako, Secretary, Chairperson of the Constituency Council of Elders; and all Constituency Executives (Ex-Officio Members).
