The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), together with the party’s flagbearer and legal team, has convened an emergency meeting to review the Accra High Court’s judgment against the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, in connection with the Samreboi mining case.
Chairman Wontumi was on Monday, July 20, 2026, sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment after being convicted of mining-related offences.
The meeting is expected to assess the legal and political implications of the court’s decision and determine the party’s next course of action.
In a statement shared on social media on Monday, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong said the party’s leadership was carefully studying the judgment before announcing its official response.
“The Party will communicate its official position and the decisions arising from these deliberations in due course,” he stated.
Kodua Frimpong also appealed to party members to remain calm, united and disciplined while the leadership considers the way forward.
He urged supporters to continue backing the party’s leadership, stressing the importance of unity, discipline and commitment to the NPP’s values and collective interests.
The conviction and sentencing of Chairman Wontumi, one of the NPP’s most influential regional executives, has generated significant political attention, with the party expected to announce its official position after the emergency meeting concludes.
