After months of vigorous campaign across the country, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates who have been described as the ‘kingmakers’ of the main opposition party, will elect former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as their flagbearer tomorrow 31st January, 2026.
THE CUSTODIAN has gathered that the majority of NPP delegates have settled on Dr Bawumia ahead of the presidential primary to the lead party again into the 2028 general election to ensure consistency and to guarantee winnability at the polls.
The delegates’ preference for the former Vice President and NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate is based on his enviable reputation, unwavering consistency and proven track record.
Apart of these, various pre-primary surveys have projected Dr Bawumia to win 14 out of the 16 regions that will give him a first-round victory.
Latest data by Global InfoAnalytics has predicted a 57% or higher “one-touch” victory for the former Vice President.
Similarly, Africa Policy Lens (APL) has projected a 61% win for Dr Bawumia with his unmatched experience, as the key to rebuilding the party after the last electoral setbacks.
With rivals lagging in surveys and momentum firmly on his side, the message from the ground is unmistakable that the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate will be retained at the polls for the next general election.
“Bawumia represents consistency, competence, and the best chance for NPP to win back power,” Mr Yaw Obeng one delegate remarked.
NPP delegates point to Dr Bawumia’s years of dedicated service to the party, his calm under pressure demeanour, and his steadfast commitment to the values of the party as reasons for their support.
“He has been consistent through thick and thin, now is the time for the party to reward that loyalty and electability,” a regional organizer said, stressing that Dr. Bawumia’s campaign has resonated strongly with calls for experienced leadership to guide the NPP back to power.
