Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has become the toast of party delegates and grassroots supporters as the party gears towards its presidential primary on 31st January, 2026.
This is because there has been a massive wave of over 70 percent endorsement from the various constituencies across the country, reflecting widespread confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy for the 2028 general election.
Support from electoral area coordinators and constituency executives to former Members of Parliament (MPs), campaign strategists, and grassroots organizers, to Dr Bawumia has been overwhelming.
The NPP faithful have attributed their support to the 2024 presidential candidate to lead the party again into the 2028 general election, to his marketability, winnability, forward-looking vision, and reputation for transformative ideas.
They also believe that having served as Vice President and the party’s presidential candidate in the last general election, Dr. Bawumia remains the most prepared and nationally recognized figure to lead the NPP back to power.
Mass endorsements
The level of endorsement for Dr Bawumia across the various constituencies ranges from 80% to 93%.
For instance, in the Prestea Huni Valley constituency, 28 of 32 coordinators pledged support for him, representing 87.5%.

According to them, Dr. Bawumia’s experience, exposure, and strong national profile make him the NPP’s most marketable candidate for 2028.
Pledge by constituency executives
Several constituency executives have added their voices to the growing list of public endorsements.
Mpohor constituency Chairman, Mr Razak Dadzie has promised to deliver 80% of the constituency’s votes, cautioning delegates against “the mistake” of overlooking the party’s most marketable candidate.
In Nkwanta South, First Vice Chairperson Pius Amewu pledged 90% support in 2026, stressing that Dr. Bawumia remains the only contender capable of bringing the party back to power.

“We don’t build a strong market by constantly changing products,” she stated.
Defections and high-profile endorsements
Apart from the mass and executive-level declarations, several prominent figures and former opponents have crossed over to support Dr. Bawumia.
In Asunafo South, Deputy Constituency Secretary Eric Agyemang, previously a key organizer for the Kennedy Agyapong campaign, publicly defected to Team Bawumia, withdrawing past criticisms and acknowledging that earlier claims against the former Vice President were “lies and falsehood.”
Former Kade MP Ofosu Asamoah, who served as Campaign Manager for presidential hopeful Ing Kwabena Agyepong, also announced his switch.
He announced that a reassessment of the party’s internal dynamics convinced him to support Dr. Bawumia’s bid.
