A total number of twelve thousand, two hundred and six (12,206) delegates are expected to cast their ballots in today’s presidential primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Northern Region.
Voting began smoothly at about 7:00 am in many centres across the 18 constituencies in the region, amidst a high turnout of electorates to elect the flagbearer of the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
At the Savelugu Roman Catholic Primary School (Yoo R/C Primary), where the constituency voting is taking place, about 683 delegates are expected to vote.

The number includes polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, constituency executives, council of elders and patrons, former constituency executives, former government appointees, the incumbent MP, Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, who turned out to vote.
The process has been peaceful amidst a heavy police presence to maintain law and order.
The Member of Parliament for Savelugu, Hajia Fatahiya Abdul Aziz, in a media interview after voting, expressed her satisfaction with the process.
She also commended the officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) and personnel of the Ghana Police Service deployed to the centre for their professionalism.
She noted the election is an internal exercise to choose the person who can lead the party into the next general election and win power for the NPP.

Hajia Fatahiya highlighted the importance of peace and unity moving forward after the contest and urged all NPP members to rally behind the candidate who will emerge victorious.
She stated that the ultimate goal is for the party to win the 2028 presidential and parliamentary polls, emphasising the need for all to embrace peace and unity in the interest of the party.
