The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced a revised timetable for its 2026 National Executive Elections, with voting scheduled to take place on October 3, 2026.

In an update issued by the party’s National Elections Committee on August 11, 2026, the NPP said the revised schedule was made pursuant to Article 10(2) of the party’s constitution and other relevant constitutional provisions governing the conduct of its national executive elections.

Under the new timetable, nominations for aspirants seeking national executive positions will open on August 17 and close on August 22. Filing of nomination forms is scheduled for August 23 to August 27, while the vetting of aspirants will be conducted from August 31 to September 3.

The party will publish the vetting results on September 5, after which aggrieved aspirants may file appeals between September 6 and 7. The National Executive Committee and National Council are expected to meet on September 10, with the official Notice of Poll to be issued on September 14 ahead of the elections on October 3.

The elections will be supervised by a nine-member National Elections Committee chaired by Hon. Frederick Opare-Ansah, with Hon. Abena Osei Asare serving as Vice Chairperson. Other members include Oboshie Sai Coffie, Frank Davies, Anthony Karbo, Salam Ama Mpianimaa Damata, Eric Ntori, the Ashanti Regional Chairman, while Evans Nimako serves as Secretary.

The NPP also outlined the eligibility requirements for aspiring national executives. Prospective candidates must have been active registered members of the party for at least two years, be members in good standing with their dues fully paid over the past two years, possess good character, pay the prescribed nomination fees and be cleared by the National Vetting Committee.

In addition, candidates contesting for the position of National Youth Organiser must not have attained the age of 40 years, while every nomination must be endorsed by at least one member in good standing from each of the party’s 16 regions. Members of the National Elections Committee are prohibited from contesting unless they are replaced on the committee.

The party named former Minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah as Chairperson of the National Vetting Committee. She will work with a team that includes Papa Owusu-Ankomah, Salifu Saeed, Barffour Agyei-Bawuah, Elizabeth Ohene, Osei Prempeh, Joyce Opoku Boateng and Arnold Boateng, with Evans Nimako serving as Secretary.

The Appeals Committee will be chaired by Joe Ghartey and will determine petitions from dissatisfied aspirants within 48 hours. Candidates who remain dissatisfied after the committee’s decision may lodge a final appeal with the National Executive Committee, whose ruling will be final and binding.

The NPP also announced the cost of nomination forms for the various positions. Aspirants for National Chairman will pay GH¢50,000, while Vice Chairpersons will pay GH¢30,000. Nomination forms for General Secretary will cost GH¢25,000, with all other positions priced at GH¢10,000. Aspirants for the party’s Special Wings—Nasara, Women and Youth—will pay GH¢8,000.

According to the party, payments for nomination forms must be made at the National Headquarters at Asylum Down, after which aspirants will receive official receipts before collecting or submitting their nomination forms. Forms may also be downloaded from the party’s website, but downloaded forms will only be accepted after payment of the prescribed fees and presentation of an official receipt.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana will conduct the elections under the supervision of the National Elections Committee in accordance with the Political Parties Act. Positions to be contested include National Chairperson, Vice Chairpersons, General Secretary, National Treasurer, National Organiser, National Women Organiser, National Youth Organiser, National Nasara Organiser and National Communications Director. Voting will be carried out by members of the party’s Electoral College as provided under the NPP Constitution.
