One More Fulfilled Campaign Promise

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo last week delivered 307 ambulances to the nation in fulfilment of his campaign promise to improve Ghana’s health sector.

Each of the 275 political constituencies in Ghana will receive an ambulance to facilitate healthcare delivery in the country.

This, according to the Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service, Professor Ahmed Nuhu Zakaria, is the single largest fleet of ambulances in Africa.

The state-of-the-art ambulances were procured under the one-constituency, one-ambulance project of the current administration aimed at ensuring that medical emergencies were handled more efficiently and effectively.

They are said to be high-performance vehicles and good for the Ghanaian terrain.

This is great news to the National Ambulance Service and the entire nation because they are going to change the face of emergency response for the better.

A country of about 30 million people, we are told, before yesterday’s historic addition, has an ambulance strength that is fluctuating between 50 and 60.

This is not good enough for a country that has gained independence for nearly 63 years.

Fortunately, the Akufo-Addo administration is resuscitating the National Ambulance Service, which was established in 2004 by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by President John Agyekum Kufuor.

This momentous achievement followed the establishment of the largest and most advanced medical drone delivery network in Ghana and arguably in the world.

It is critical that developing countries such as Ghana that face significant health deficits, issues of primary health care delivery require innovative means and practices.

Health deficits that are totally unacceptable include the fact that about 30% of women die in labour due to excessive bleeding with the issue of immediate intervention after a snake- bite also being deplorable.

It is anticipated that with installation of installed advanced technology such as the medical drone delivery network to supply blood pints and other medical products to remote areas, where the need is more and the revived ambulance service, Ghanaians will be receiving better healthcare under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo.

This is a government that is truly walking its talk in all sectors of the economy and no amount of mudslinging, character assassination of its kingpins, particularly President Akufo-Addo and his Vice Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, will discourage well-meaning Ghanaians from believing in the NPP government.

We join the majority of Ghanaians in congratulating the Akufo-Addo administration for fulfilling yet another campaign promise.
