The family of the late Hajia Ramatu Mahama, wife of the late former Vice President of Ghana, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, has organized the one-year Islamic prayer service after her passing to glory.

The former Second Lady died at the Korle Bu Teaching on Thursday, April 7, 2022, after short illness. She passed on at age 70.

 The Vice President of Ghana, Dr Bawumia Mahamudu and the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharabutu, among other dignitaries on Friday, April 7, joined members of the Aliu Mahama family at their Cantonments’ private residence in Accra to observe a Quranic recitation in memory of the deceased.

The Member of Parliament for Yendi, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, on behalf of the family thanked all sympathizers and friends of the family for making time to commemorate the one-year anniversary of their late mother.

“Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the Vice President of the Republic, H.E Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharabutu. We truly appreciate the effort of everyone – the small and the grand – thank you all” he stated.

According to him, the Imoro Egala and Mumuni Bawumia families have longstanding ties which started during the days of his maternal grandfather, Alhaji Imoro Egala, Ghana’s former Minister of Trade and first black Chairman of Ghana Cocoa Board and Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia, the late father of Vice President Bawumia.

The Yendi MP went further to describe the late Mma Ramatu as she was affectionately known in private life in Tamale as a mother for all figure in society, eulogizing her as a great personality who did a lot to impact meaningfully in the lives of individuals within and outside the family.
