The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and former Minister for Finance, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta are likely to engage in a fierce battle in the coming days.
This is because the OSP has ordered the former Minister to present himself in person at its headquarters today Monday, June 2, 2025, warning that failure to do so will carry severe repercussions.
In a statement issued yesterday, the OSP cautioned that should Mr. Ofori-Atta fail to honour its summons, he will be reinstated on its list of wanted persons and officially declared a fugitive from justice.
The office further indicated it would begin processes to issue an INTERPOL Red Notice, potentially subjecting the former minister to international arrest and extradition to Ghana.
This directive comes as part of ongoing investigations into alleged corruption and abuse of office by the former Minister for Finance.
Mr. Ofori-Atta was previously taken off the OSP’s wanted list following what authorities described as “significant cooperation.”
However, that decision now hangs in the balance as it is not clear if the former Finance Minister will meet the June 2 deadline.
Mr. Ofori-Atta is supposedly being investigated on some issues at various sectors of the economy.
They include Petroleum and Minerals Revenue Assurance, Contractual arrangements between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA); Electricity Company Contract Termination, termination of a contract between the Electricity Company of Ghana and Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology (BXC); and National Cathedral Project, procurement procedures and financial transactions related to the National Cathedral.
The rest are Ambulance Procurement, a Ministry of Health contract with Service Ghana Auto Group Limited for the purchase and maintenance of 307 ambulances; and GRA Tax P-Fund Management, Handling and disbursement of funds from the Tax P-Fund Account of the GRA.
