The Oti Regional Police Command has successfully intercepted a major consignment of suspected narcotics after acting on credible intelligence.

On September 14, 2026, officers stopped a DAF articulated truck bearing registration number GE 3906-15 that was believed to be transporting illicit substances hidden in specially constructed secret compartments.

A thorough search of the vehicle revealed 5,164 tightly compressed, round parcels concealed within those compartments. Police believe the parcels contain narcotic substances and have secured them as exhibits to support ongoing investigations. The truck itself has been impounded.

Three suspects travelling in the vehicle were arrested at the scene. They have been identified as Abdul Razak Adamu, a 35-year-old driver; Jubril Amidu, a 33-year-old mechanic; and Aliu Adamu, also a 33-year-old driver.

A fourth occupant, named Adamu Iddi, managed to escape and remains at large. Police are intensifying efforts to locate him and to identify any other individuals connected to the consignment.

On September 17, 2026, the three arrested men were arraigned before the Dambai Circuit Court, presided over by Justice Dr Moses Bedima Duut. They were remanded in police custody and are due to reappear in court on 15 October 2026.

In a statement released on Friday, 18 September, the Oti Regional Police Command confirmed the details of the operation and underscored its determination to disrupt narcotics trafficking and organised crime across the region.

The Command has appealed to members of the public to come forward with any credible information that could assist the investigation or lead to further arrests.

The successful interception highlights the value of intelligence-led policing and the continued vigilance of officers in protecting communities from the harms associated with the illicit drug trade.
