Mr. Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Majority Chief Whip

The Majority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh has thrown a challenge to his colleagues in the Minority caucus to support the passing of the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy) Bill and allow the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to face the consequences.

“If the much-talked E-Levy is bad a policy as the Minority has told Ghanaians, they should allow us pass it and suffer the consequences thereafter.

“If the policy is that bad, as they are seeking and continuously been telling the Ghanaian people, why don’t you allow us to pass it so that we suffer the brunt of it?

“If you care more about the Ghanaian people and you want to come to power, and we are bringing a policy that is so bad, you should rather be helping us to pass it so that we will suffer and our political fortunes will go against us which will inure to your benefit. But they know that this will rake in huge domestic revenue which will be the game changer and that is why they are doing what they are doing”, he noted

Speaking to journalists in Parliament on Friday, the Majority Chief Whip who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) Nsawam/Adoagyiri said, minority is opposing the E-Levy because it will affect their political fortunes at the 2024 general election.

“The Minority is aware that the E-Levy will not inure to their benefit and the huge revenue which will come in to be the game changer and the narrative will change and this why the NDC is against it”, Mr. Annoh-Dompreh pointed out.

He entreated Members of the majority caucus to mobilise themselves and not to rely on NDC minority to past the E-levy.

“Bottom line is that we should put our house in order as majority, the cue is clear to us, we have drawn our lessons what have happen the last weeks, we have to put our house together and get our business done simple as that”, he added.
