A broad coalition of party intellectuals, TESCON leaders, and professional groups within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has formally declared its strong endorsement of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
Meeting in what they described as a spirit of patriotic duty and firm commitment to national progress, the Patriotic Intellectuals of Ghana (PI-G), the National Association of TESCON Patrons for Bawumia (NATEP4DMB), TESCON members, and allied professional groups announced their support ahead of the NPP’s internal primaries scheduled for 31 January 2026.
In a joint statement, the group said its endorsement followed a careful assessment of all aspirants contesting for the party’s top slot, concluding that Dr. Bawumia stands out as the most capable, credible, and electable candidate to lead the NPP into the 2028 elections and ultimately serve as President of the Republic.
According to the group, Dr. Bawumia’s two terms as Vice President have clearly demonstrated his competence, integrity, and readiness to govern. His experience in economic management and public administration, they noted, equips him with the depth and vision required to steer Ghana toward sustainable growth.
They highlighted his background as a former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, describing him as a technocrat with a strong grasp of monetary policy, financial inclusion, and macroeconomic stability.
The group credited his influence for key periods of economic resilience, arguing that contrasting outcomes during moments when his role was limited further underscore his value to national economic management.
The endorsement also emphasized Dr. Bawumia’s pivotal role in Ghana’s digital transformation agenda. Flagship initiatives such as mobile money interoperability, the Ghana Card, the digital address system, paperless ports, and the Ghana.gov platform were cited as evidence of his forward-thinking, data-driven leadership.
These reforms, the group said, have positioned Ghana as a continental leader in digital governance and public service delivery.
Beyond policy and technical expertise, the group praised Dr. Bawumia’s personal qualities, describing him as humble, calm under pressure, and approachable.
They noted that his consistent refusal to engage in personal attacks, choosing instead to focus on ideas, solutions, and national development—traits they believe are essential for modern leadership.
The coalition further described Dr. Bawumia as a unifying figure within both the NPP and the broader Ghanaian society. As a Northern Muslim in a traditionally diverse political space, they said he represents inclusiveness and national cohesion, capable of bridging regional, ethnic, and religious divides.
They referenced former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s public commendation of Dr. Bawumia’s loyalty, honesty, and dedication over 16 years of close collaboration.
In addition to economic and digital reforms, the group pointed to Dr. Bawumia’s support for initiatives such as financial inclusion, drone medical delivery services (Zipline), Agenda 111 hospital projects, and the digitization of state institutions.
These interventions, they said, reflect a servant-leadership approach focused on practical solutions and inclusive development.
The statement also noted that Dr. Bawumia maintains an unblemished public record, free from corruption allegations or factional dominance, and praised his resilience and continued commitment to public service even after the challenges of the 2024 elections.
In conclusion, the Patriotic Intellectuals of Ghana, NATEP4DMB, TESCON members, and professional groups declared their unreserved endorsement of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, expressing confidence that his leadership represents the ideals of patriotism, competence, credibility, and unity needed to guide Ghana into a prosperous future.
They called on delegates and party faithful to rally behind his candidature as the NPP prepares for its internal primaries and the road to the 2028 general elections.
